Writing Voiceover Scripts

It’s been awhile since I put anything up here. Between my personal life, professional life, and other hobbies, it feels like I haven’t had anything new or interesting to contribute here for awhile. Yet when it comes to my writing work, I did have some interesting news come up last year which I never posted about.

Last year I took a trip with three of my friends and we did a full loop around Nova Scotia as part of a geocaching trip. While out and about in the southern shore, I got an email telling me my application to do voiceover scripts for a YouTube channel had been accepted. It was for a channel called WatchMojo. They produce a lot of different content but are known primarily for their “top 10” lists.

Since September of last year, I have been writing scripts for them and the process has been really interesting for me.

The nature of the “top 10” lists means generally there are ten “blurbs” I write for each script, which also includes a small intro. The blurbs themselves have a specific word count limitation. This has made it really interesting for someone like me as I tend to be a bit long winded in what I write about. It’s been a lot of fun trying to find different ways to describe the specific content I’m working on. There have been plenty of topics I have taken on that I was not as well versed in and have had to do a lot of research on. It’s helped me become a better writer and I have learned all kinds of interesting things.

I’m now at the point where I am on their regular schedule of writers and produce several scripts for them a week. It’s been hard at times to fit the work in with my regular schedule, but it is a form of writing I get to do every week. Plus I get paid for it.

It may not be the first recurring writing gig I have had which paid, but it certainly one that has far more rewards for me.

If you happen to be curious what kind of videos I have been scripting, feel free to check out this playlist on YouTube. I update it every time a new video comes out that I wrote the script for.

Hope you enjoy!
